About MRCC
MRCC Tórshavn is a Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Center and operates closely with and in the same locations as Tórshavnradio.
MRCC Tórshavn initiates and co-ordinates search and rescue (SAR) on Faroes sea territory under responsibility of the Ministry of Fisheries. Co-operation agreements have been made with different parties such as Atlantic Helicopters, Joint Arctic Command and also with neighbouring countries for co-operation. (SAR assets in the Faroe Islands)
Other duties are to receive oil pollution reports from Faroese sea territory, patient transportation, receive ISPS reports from ships, and issue Nav. Warnings.
Normal operation area is from 200 nautical miles from the coast line or to the centerline between countries.
The center is manned 24 hrs a day the whole year.
